Porcelain veneers

Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that cover the front surface of the tooth after it has been prepared. Sometimes a natural colour 'composite' material is used instead of porcelain.
Because they are very thin very little preparation of the tooth is required.

The use of veneers on multiple front teeth has become known as a “Smile Makeover” – a treatment made popular thanks to celebrities and appearances on makeover television shows.

They are an effective cosmetic treatment that can be used to address a number of problems, including gaps between the teeth, worn, chipped and stained teeth. In the past veneers were used to mask crooked teeth but now we encourage patients to consider orthodontics to align poorly positioned teeth.

The aim is to create a beautiful, natural smile and we invite patients to get involved in choosing the shade and shape of their veneers. Sometimes for that especially difficult case, we can even have the veneer or crown finished with our patients present at our ceramic technicians to achieve an exact colour match.
.
A veneer takes at least two visits; the first to prepare the tooth and to match the shade, and the second to fit it.. Only minor adjustments can be made to the veneer after it is fitted. Veneers should last for many years, but they can chip or break, just as your own teeth can.
